AppointmentĪ SCCO Trustee is appointed by ordinary resolution at a SCCO general meeting, on receiving a majority vote from SCCO members who are eligible to vote. Role OverviewĪ SCCO Trustee is responsible for advancing the purposes of the SCCO by providing governance and strategic direction. The SCCO Chair should be an experienced member of the SCCO Board of Trustees who has a sound knowledge of Charities Act and the objectives of the SCCOĪ SCCO Trustee will work with the SCCO Board of Trustees and the SCCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Responsible for reporting concerns raised regarding the SCCO Safeguarding Lead (the CEO) including the failure to follow procedure, and dealing with immediate Safeguarding concerns should the Safeguarding Lead be unavailable.Act as stage 3 adjudicator in line with the SCCO Student Grievance Procedure.Reviewing and appraising the performance of the CEO. Work in partnership with the CEO to support the employees, helping them achieve the aims of the SCCO, and to optimise the relationship between the Board of Trustees and the employees.Ensuring the SCCO complies with its Articles of Association, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations and to make sure that the SCCO pursues its objects as defined in its Mission Statement.Liaising with the CEO to keep an overview of the SCCO’s affairs and to provide support as appropriate.Acting as a spokesperson for the SCCO where appropriate.Representing the SCCO at appropriate events, meetings or functions.Monitoring that decisions taken at board meetings are implemented.Giving directions to Board policy making.Chairing and facilitating the Board meetings.Planning the annual cycle of board meetings and agreeing the agendas.Ensuring the Board has agreed priorities, structures, processes and a productive culture.Providing leadership for the Board of Trustees in their role of setting the strategy and policy of the SCCO.The position can be held for the period of Board of Trustee appointment, and exceptionally, a Trustee may serve a year beyond the six-year term as a Trustee if serving as Chair of the Board. The SCCO Chair is appointed by the SCCO Board of Trustees, who may, at any time, revoke the appointment. The Chair is responsible for the provision of leadership and direction to the Board of Trustees, to enable the Board to fulfil their responsibilities for the overall governance and strategic direction of the SCCO. The Chair will be an SCCO Trustee, and will work with the SCCO Board of Trustees and the SCCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
